As the previous poster mentioned, it's the result of Trijicon's lawsuit against them in regards to the buttons being on the "posts" of the optic body. Trijicon patented that button placement.

CHPWS makes a good adapter plate though. The 509 is on sale most places for around $300 right now. That savings will buy the plate and then some. I think chpws is selling it for $290 on their site. Might even have a package deal with one of their adapters, but I'm not positive.
