I've tied using the lasso, my fists...I can't interrogate him and thus rob the home. If I kill him there's still a fire in the chimney where the stash is.

In the small shed SE of the Catfish Jackson's homestead, there is an white arrow painted on the table aimed at the window. There's nothing to loot but I walked outside to the window (nothing to loot again) and just headed in the direction the arrow pointed. All that was there was a small boat on the shore.
