As the other comment mentions ECE 408 (aka CS 483) is a pretty good class. However, I think 420 has more of a cpu-parallelism (using OpenMP etc) focus as opposed to 408 doing gpu/CUDA. CS 484 is the better equivalent if cpu stuff is what you’re after. You can check the history but I think it’s offered most spring semesters. The class looks really interesting but I haven’t heard much about it, and there isn’t a lot about it online (especially recently). I’d really appreciate any insight into what the class is like, workload, how interesting the topics are, etc. EDIT: I’ve also not done a whole lot of stats, will I struggle with the course?Thomas M. CS 483 Applied Parallel Programming credit: 4 Hours. Same as CSE 408 and ECE 408. See ECE 408.

Taking it this semester, and so far it's been a pretty relaxed class. Each week is an hour of lectures (that are reasonably dense with math, but again the length is short so it's quite reasonable). In addition, there's a quiz with unlimited attempt with about 6-8 questions, along with a programming homework assignment. There will be both programming and written assignments. Course Information: 3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: CS 225; MATH 241; one of MATH 225, MATH 257, MATH 415, MATH 416, ASRM 406 or BIOE 210; one of CS 361, STAT 361, ECE 313, MATH 362, MATH 461, MATH 463 or STAT 400.Many students take the prerequisite course, CS 421, here at U. Illinois, and parsing is covered adequately in that class. The time saved is being used for more important topics, especially Program Optimization.
