The Obsidian Rose is an accessory that reduces lava's base damage from 80 to (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 35 / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 50. It has a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1/20 (5%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 1/50 (2%) chance of being dropped by Fire Imps, an enemy found in The Underworld.
It does say mining level. Check your holosphere and look at the stats, anything with mining level of 3 or above can mine obsidian. Steel is only mining level 2. Also, keep in mind that if both heads are pickaxe heads, the mining level goes up by one. Fire Imps only. You could try using luck potions or other luck boosting methodes, but good luck getting those oisters from oasis fishing and then getting the pearls. AFK farms are cool. "Faster" isn't really a thing for rare drops. Keep killing Fire Imps and you'll eventually get an Obsidian Rose.
Old-ish thread but did you build your statue imp farm above ground or did you have to do it in hell to get the rose? Edit: Answered my own question: no. I got it around my 800th imp with a little farm above ground.
