On this trip, I stayed using points in a one bedroom suite at the Westin Villas (~$600 per night) and a one bedroom residence at the Ritz Carlton (~$1500 per night). At 2-3X the price of the other properties for comparable rooms/suites, I had high expectations - I think rightly so because everything here is very expensive.
The Ritz Carlton Kapalua is the best hotel stay I have ever had in over 1,400 nights at Marriott properties and 1,700 total lifetime hotel nights including over 700 nights at 5 star properties around the world. Upon returning to Maui, we naturally selected the Ritz-Carlton because of their exceptional grounds, restaurants, amenities and service! SO - if you want more quiet and seclusion and general "loveliness" - then go for the Ritz. For more activity (and the Hyatt has a luau, star-gazing, etc on site) - go with the Hyatt.
