The ceremony will honor the 31 WSU football players, administrators and supporters who died in a 1970 plane crash in the Rocky Mountains. Due to COVID-19, the ceremony will be held at Cessna Stadium this year.Tragically, Coach Ben Wilson and his wife, Helen, perished in the 1970 WSU football plane crash. Memorial scholarships were established in memory of those athletic department staff and friends who died in the crash. Of those, the Ben and Helen Wilson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to student athletes participating in the baseball program.A suspect is now in custody for a fatal shooting that happened in 2018 at a north Wichita home.
