We just moved Anointments to being a "part" that we physically control how and when to attach. We just took away billions of possible loot that caused the loot pool to be diluted. Modern Warfare is actually the same way. Using the same concept as Borderlands 3, there's actually billions of different "weapons" in MW as well.

Gearbox Software removed 21 anointments with the July 23, 2020 patch. These won't be able to roll on a piece of gear anymore. If you have an item that has one of these anointments, it will function properly. They are not removed from the game, they just won't appear on any new items.
