Airpod making static noise.

A couple of months ago I spilled water on them but immediately dried them to the best of my ability. Now there is a static noise on the left AirPod once I put them in my ear. However, after the pairing to my phone is done, the static goes away. The sound and noise canceling functions of both AirPods are still functional from what I can tell.
