You can definitely survive with just wines man, is bring 10 a game, Fletch till 500 or 750 points then just burn. I've gotten 1000 points in games where I've only had 4 free invent spots work 99 hp. One brew just incase, 4-5 wines and praying rapid heal is what I do. Just use brews and save the heartache.

Yesterday I got 95 Firemaking at Wintertodt. After I got to level 95, I started taking less damage from everything. I used to take 3 damage from the cold, now I only take 2. A storm used to hit me for 9, now it only does 6, and shrapnel from the brazier breaking used to hit 6, but it only does 4 now.

Solo is awesome because you get better loot and XP in non firemaking skills. But its basically an hour commitment to get the most out of a round. I'd say do a mix of both solo and mass and set a target.
