The time it would take you to starve them anyway, you coulda been spending taming. A troll could happen by and shoot the dino you are taming. Or something could glitch through your walls and get a bite in. I dont do this for everything I tame, just important high level tames like quetzals and gigas. EDIT: On a side note, there really isnt anything to lose in starve taming either.
