Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located two miles north of Strong City on Kansas State Highway 177 (the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway) and is a unique public/private partnership between the National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy.

The Konza Prairie Preserve covers 8,616 acres, and is also home to native tallgrass prairie. Both Kansas State University and The Nature Conservancy own this Kansas Flint Hills prairie, which supports more than 7,500 different kinds of plants and 40 different mammal species.
