M4A1 has a shorter barrel with a pinned muzzle device and picatinny rails. It can be a heavy gun with all the goodies. But it runs great. V7 has longer barrel, easily removal muzzle device for say a brake or QD suppressor device, and lighter MLOK rails. For me the Block I equipment just wasn’t as visually appealing (except when on a Block 1 Mk18) and I wanted something that was a bit different than a run of the mill M4A1. The Block 1 is lighter by far. The Elcan is heavy, but its location doesn't affect the handling as much as something mounted farther out. The longer rail on the Block 2 is more versatile for me in different positions. The previous poster nailed it as far as the Block 2 being more geared towards mid-distances.I chose the m4a1 for the rail, its tough af and lighter than the v9 The m4a1 is a 12.5" rail with a 14.5 barrel pin and welded flash hider, while the v9 is a 15" rail with a full 16" barrel so the m4a1 is lighter and has a carbine gas length system.
