Edit: To answer your question, no. I would not bet my life on a Canik or any sort of clone. Barring top shelf carry guns like the Staccatto and Wilson Combat, I would only trust my life to a handgun under the brand names; Glock, Sig, CZ, M&P, HK, Walther, Beretta and maybe FN.

If you've ever shot a full-size, steel-framed 9mm, like a 5" 1911, 92FS, P226, or longer barrel CZ, the Rival-S will be closer to that. Now, whether you appreciate that different feel, and more importantly, can take advantage of it will depend on your shooting skill. Correct. It should be easier with the mag out as well. Take the empty magazine out first - that’s what engages the stop. Yeah, the slide release is hard to get a purchase on when wanting to lock it back and really hard when wanting to close the action after reloading. Racking the slide is where it's at.
