Ultracite and regular ammo is the same drop rate for daily ops when it comes to my Gatling gun. I modified it to have Ultracite 5mm, I went in there with zero bullets. I left with 1k+ My teammate killed one enemy, I looted him and got 60 bullets, with those 60 bullets I just kept killing and killing.
The lowered accuracy compared to a gatling laser bothered me and I chose not to invest any time in getting a decent plasma. Not really. The ugl has a lower per shot damage, so further decreasing it by splitting it into 2 .625% shots vs 1 100% shot is going to make it worse against armor. Also, non-exolosive weapons only get the 25% maximum (vs. lightly armored enemies) damage boost from TS as opposed to a higher percentage from J or A or B or better armor reduction ...
The standard barrel seems to have quite a bit more dps. What it doesn't show is that Charging barrel gives you more range and accuracy, but I find that they are rarely needed. The Gatling Laser is a cool weapon though, being an automatic weapon but it's also very accurate, and the Charging barrel makes it even more so.
You need to scrap ultracite laser guns to learn mods. Buy the plan in watoga and start building and scraping. Make sure you have the science perk equipped that lowers costs. And scraper for scraping. A normal reload should give me about 500 shots but now when I reload it gives me 34 shots max and the ultracite fusion core is depleted. I have the perk that doubles the fusion core charge, so I have 999 ammo on a full core. Occasionally when I get staggered my ammo count will go from whatever it’s at to zero and I have to reload. I’ve seen it go from 600+ to zero before.On the other hand, ultracite fusion cores are expensive. It would be nice to grind less, but have the same overall damage. It sucks. You never use crits (or VATS in general) on gatling lasers. Plus prime receiver is still multiplicative on it.
