Prot does kill quite a bit slower, but in exchange you have no downtime in between mobs. Being able to aoe large of mobs is a major bonus too. That being said, even as a full phase 1 bis prot pally, it’s damn near impossible to get into pug raids as either prot or ret.

Level 1 - 10 is pretty easy on every class in wotlk. You will feel soon very mana hungry on your prot Pala. If your goal is to play prot in general, I'd suggest to level to 40 as ret and then respec into prot. Once you have holy shield you can comfortable mass pull without much mana and health issues. Ret is still one of the better levelers.

To my knowledge, you cannot effectively tank with a 2hander as a Paladin. My advice, just level as Holy and pick up tanking pieces (stam + int) and Holy pieces as you go. The only thing strength does for prot pally in tbc is add to block value and melee damage. Melee dmg does very little threat. You should be going for Stam,spell dmg, Int and avoidance. All your threat is from holy damage. Mana can be an issue while Leveling so int while leveling is more important than at endgame.
