I think it's a fix for this bug that appeared when permadeath of companions was enabled. If a companion party leader died, his troops would wander about as an ennemy party and wouldn't disappear until defeated. I guess it's more accurate than the deserters would disband on their own
Get the Noble Retinues policy. It will increase your party size by 50. Just be aware that when you leave the kingdom, your party size will go back down and your troops will begin to desert. To get a lord to join your side, talk to them directly, and choose the dialogue option that says "Your liege is not worthy of your loyalty." and pass the persuasion check. If you succeed the persuasion check, depending on the personality of the lord/lady, they may ask for compensation for defecting from their kingdom.

Why are the party expenses of my companion 420 if his wage is 26 and his party contains 25 recruits. 26 denars + 25x2 denars equals 76 what is this mf doing with the other 350 denars a day. He correctly leaded cavalry in my army as a captain for a time. Then I did not understood why he became captain for infantry or archer only. Explanation: his horse died in battle without me noticing.

It used to be in the Clan tab under the members part but I cannot seem to find it. Click the Kick from Clan button under the character's picture on the Members tab of the Clan page. There is nothing there I'm afraid. The button will not appear. I only get the option to talk to them but not kick them. There is definitely a button in mainline 1.72.
