The shortcut is the broken wall just before the fire sage boss, with a tree root sticking out. You only need to +1 the chaos covenant to open this path btw. Just take the elevator down. Take the stairs that leads towards the fire sage's room. Run towards the entrance and to your left should be a giant hole. I didn’t progress beyond the first bonfire after the centipede, I instead went back, joined the Chaos Servant covenant, gave the daughter of chaos 30 humanity (to reach rank 2) and proceeded to open the shortcut to lost izalith from before the firesage demon. The sunlight maggot was there, I killed it, Solaire was saved.To open the shortcut, you must have already placed the Lordvessel and currently be +2 in the covenant. Some people mistakenly think the blank wall past the Fair Lady is the shortcut gate, but it is not. To reach the gate, approach Demon Firesage's fog door and then go through the opening immediately to the right of the fog.There is a bonfire towards the end of Lost Izalith: it's behind a false wall at the end of the lava area.
