Tuzoia. Things To Know About Tuzoia.

Tuzoia is an extinct genus of large bivalved arthropod known from Early to Middle Cambrian marine environments from what is now North America, Australia, China, Europe and Siberia. The large, domed carapace reached lengths of 180 millimetres , making them amongst the largest known Cambrian arthropods.Tokummia has a cylindrical body, with the anterior half covered by a 8.78 cm (3.46 in) long bivalved carapace. At the front of the animal, there are a pair of antennae, possible eyes, mouthparts ( mandibles, maxillule and maxilla) and prominent pincer-like maxillipeds. These shows the oldest record of arthropod pincers.D. anima, as well as the newly reported Tuzoia. sp. from the Fandian biota, represent the oldest occurrence of Tuzoiidae, extending its stratigraphic range to Cambrian Stage 3 and expanding the palaeogeographical distribution of the group to the northern border of the Yangtze Platform.A fragment of a Burgess Shale-type fossil, bivalved arthropod Tuzoia Walcott, 1912, is described from shales of the mid-Cambrian Buchava Formation in the Skryje-Týřovice Basin, Central Bohemia, Czech Republic. It is the second recorded find of Tuzoia from West Gondwana. Uncrushed and uncoloured preservation of the tuzoiid valve is ...It is thought that Tuzoia species probably lived in the water column, perhaps explaining their great distributions. Note: Marks on all scale bars are centimeters (cm). Tuzoia guntheri Robison and Richards, 1981. KUMIP 134797 (Paratype; part, counterpart). Marjum Formation, House Range, Millard County, Utah. Vannier et al. 2006 assume that Tuzoia and the also Cambrian genus Isoxys are possibly representatives of the class Thylacocephala. Revised diagnosis for the genus Tuzoia Walcott, 1912 in Vannier et al. (2007, pp. 458–459): “Large bivalved arthropod (valve length up to approx. 180 mm; Chlupác and Kordule, 2002). Putative stem-group arthropods are relatively rare in the new collections. We have uncovered frontal appendages and lateral flaps of Anomalocaris.of Tuzoia was a single specimen collected from the Burgess Shale (Miaolingian Series, Wuliuan Stage) in British Columbia, Canada, named T. retifera by Walcott in 1912. In 2007, Jean Vannier and other researchers published a great summary of all Tuzoia species known, and showed, for the first time, the presence of other soft tissues: a pair of large eyes. Picture (c) J.-B.Caron https://bit.ly/3uyviCS . 07 Dec 2022 19:57:54

The large, unnamed Tuzoia species from the Emu Bay Shale has stalked compound eyes that are ovoid to round and 6-9 mm in diameter 11: very similar to the fossil eyes described here.
