Had a similar experience at first but it is fixable by downloading the valve's APU driver from Nov. 2022, then choose Additional Options, then Factory Reset. Then you can now install the March 2023 Valve's APU driver and do the same steps. It will fix the problems from installing the custom APU if any is encountered. Games are purchased and downloaded using the Steam Store. That said, Steam Deck is a PC so you can install third party software and operating systems. This is pretty neat. When the battery's life starts to die off I'll convert it to a server with its own built in UPS.
