Check for Fuel Pump power at the 30 terminal on the relay or the 655 Pink wire before lifting the seat base to access tank wiring further. i.e the Relay only powers the pump. Tractor. JD 4110, X500. Yes, I’d get it addressed----my surging eventually lead to backfires which then damaged a fuel injector. My 485 surged only on start up after it had cold soaked when the temps were +5 F and below. Problem wouldn’t appear after it had warmed up or when the temps were higher than 5.

Since the tractor was new I've noticed that if I put a load on the engine (e.g. begin moving forward) too quickly after having started the engine it momentarily slows down, as if starved for fuel. It responds like this whether the engine is cold or warmed up. Soon after the X485 model was released, a number of owners were running into trouble with over heating and sometimes "smoking" the engine. John Deere sent a bulletin to all owners about frequently checking and cleaning the radiator and radiator screens to prevent the problem.
