Oct 22, 2021 · 1 buy a scangauge or similar scanner and get the temp reading directly from the ecu. 2 buy an inexpensive IR thermometer and take the engine temp at the upper rad hose when you suspect it is overheating. The two above will conclusively tell you if you actually have a problem, or if this is just a gauge inaccuracy. The thing you'll notice more than anything is the rpms at idle. Generally the car idles around 900 but during the regeneration it idles at 1,000. Also the fans go off like you're getting ready for take off on a jet plane. Crazy alarming if you're not prepared for it. But these forums help to the mind at ease.
