Cover your base with them. Start with placing workbenches to get a first idea if the range and then replace the workbenches with another item or hide the workbench.

I don't think portals or wood/snote walls prevent spawns so if you don't have a campfire of crafting station near the portals you will get mobs spawning in "secured" locations. had the same probelm in my farming area, dropped a couple work benches at the back wall and middle. haven't had an issue since.

that's correct but events trigger is 64x64 on valheim wiki, so you can fit that area with torches and or workbenches and it does prevent it. It won't prevent the event from happening but you can cover enough area and not have anything spawn.
